Sprint announced today the upcoming launch of the Sanyo Pro-200 and Pro-700, two new devices integrating Nextel Direct Connect push-to-talk (PTT) service. Powered by Qualcomm's QChat, the Pro-200 and Pro-700 operate on Sprint's Mobile Broadband EV-DO Rev. A network instead of the common iDEN network for faster data speeds.

The Sanyo Pro-200 sports an attractive, slim clamshell form factor. Delivering push-to-talk services, key functionalities including Bluetooth, messaging capabilities and mobile email. The Pro-700 is designed for harsh environments, providing a rugged exterior certified to military standards for dust, shock and vibration. Other new features for the Pro-200 and Pro-700 includes:

- Single number option: Users can choose to have one phone number for voice and push-to-talk calls or if preferred, subscribers can opt to have a separate Direct Connect number
- DC Permissions: Users can block/allow incoming one-to-one push-to-talk calls and Call Alerts
- PTT Missed Call Notification: When on a Nextel Direct Connect call, users will receive a notification if they miss a push-to-talk call, Call Alert or Group call
- Call Alerts with Text: With the Call Alerts with Text feature, users can attach one of several preset text messages, such as "Please stop by," to Call Alerts sent
- Sprint Mobile Sync: An online tool that lets customers manage their contact information online such as setting up groups for PTT and text/voice messaging, automatically synchronizing with the phone, allowing for easier entry and full secure backup of contacts

In addition, consumers can access Sprint Mobile Broadband for fast file downloads, Web browsing, email access and more. Upgraded to EV-DO Rev. A technology, the network reaches more than 242 million people, 15,325 cities and 1,452 airports. Features available on the Pro-200 and Pro-700 will continue to include:

- Direct Connect: One-to-one push-to-talk communication to boost productivity and save time and money
- Group Connect: Communicate with up to 20 other Nextel Direct Connect users accessing the same QChat technology all at once, created and managed dynamically on the device or online
- Call Alerts: Send a repeating PTT Alert to let another Nextel Direct Connect subscriber know they are trying to reach them

The Sanyo Pro-200 and Pro-700 will be available later this month for $49.99 and $69.99 respectively, both with a two-year service agreement and $50 mail-in rebate.

AT&T CEO: 3G iPhone Coming in Next Few Months

The long awaiting iPhone with 3G connection is getting another confirmation again. Not a direct tips, but AT&T CEO hints that all of their smart devices will be compatible with 3G in coming months.

The Apple iPhone has been stuck with EDGE connection since its launches last year. An upcoming 3G iPhone is no doubt, what people wondering next will be its price tag.

Ericsson and Telstra use mobile softswitch solution

Ericsson is assisting Australia’s Telstra to deploy the world’s first Mobile Softswitch Solution based on blade technology. It will also reduce the energy use of the softswitch by up to 60 percent per subscriber.

Wayfinder Announces Power Search Web Application For iPhone

Rumor: Sprint to Release Palm Treo 800w in July

According to a leaked road map last week, Sprint will be announcing a Treo 700w replacement, the Treo 800w Windows Mobile smartphone . The roadmap stating a Windows 6.0, but we are guessing it will come with Windows 6.1 since it has already officially announced.

Apart from the usual Palm style design, WiFi and GPS might be included for the first time in Palm history.

HTC TOuch Dual in the U.S. in Q2 of 2008

At CTIA 2008, taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, HTC has made it known that they will be releasing the Touch Dual smartphone in the United States during Q2 of this year. Rocking Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, a slide-out 20-key QWERTY keyboard, and dual-band WCDMA (850/1900MHz), we're looking forward to the state side debut of a GSM Touch.

AT&T Using Microsoft Surface in Stores, 3G iPhone Coming Soon

AT&T and Microsoft have released details on a cool new retail project that will have a Surface table top computer in several AT&T retail locations on April 17th. AT&T's CEO also hinted that we should be seeing a 3G iPhone in "months", and that we can hope to see Google Android based devices being offered sometime as well.

LG Electronics today unveiled the LG Iron Man phone, a limited-edition, 18-karat gold slider modeled after the LG Shine. As part of the promotion campaign with Paramount Pictures to promote the upcoming Marvel Studios film Iron Man, the Iron Man phone will not be sold in stores.

Prior to the film's May 2, 2008 release date, LG will unveil advertising, as well as retail, online and consumer electronics industry initiatives to showcase the company's devices.

"In today's fast-paced world, cell phones often perform heroic feats when it comes to connecting consumers with friends and family, solving business problems and staying current with up-to-the-minute news and entertainment," said Rabbani. "'Iron Man' lead character, Tony Stark, embodies what LG is all about by pushing technology boundaries and insisting on having the most innovative and advanced gadgets, including his mobile phone."

One element of the upcoming LG marketing plan will include launching http://www.insidethesuit.com which will offer consumers exclusive content from the film, and behind-the-scenes footage of the making of Iron Man's suit. Consumers who visit the site beginning April 15, 2008 will also have the chance to win a LG Iron Man phone worth about $2000.
